    Licensed Clinical Psychologist

    About Lan Yang

Welcome and thank you for visiting my site!

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Philadelphia, PA practicing psychotherapy. In my practice, I use a humanistic, relational, and mindfulness approach in working with clients. In other words, I believe that it is vital in creating a warm and non-judgmental environment so that clients may feel safe to talk about what is troubling them. I also place importance on the connections we create with others and the impact relationships have in our lives. Mindfulness, or being present in the moment, is a state of being that I help clients develop. Developing mindfulness can help us live our lives more fully by being more open and aware of the present moment. Being mindful discourages us from avoiding painful thoughts and feelings and can help us overcome rumination and negative patterns.

I obtained my Masters and Doctorate degrees from Widener University in clinical psychology and a Bachelors degree in psychology and Mandarin from Mount Holyoke College. My experiences range from working with children to adults in a variety of settings doing forensic evaluations, psychoeducational evaluations, biofeedback, individual psychotherapy, and group psychotherapy.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Do you offer consultations?

Yes, I am happy to provide a free phone consultation to talk about what you are looking for in therapy and to answer any questions. I can also tell you what you can expect in the first session.

    What is therapy like?

Therapy is a place to work out problems you may be experiencing in your life. It can be scary and daunting at first because most of us aren't used to being open and talking about them. In general, we talk about important events in your life, past events that are relevant to the current issue, and insights that you gain week to week.

Therapy works by talking about and processing our thoughts and feelings. There is research that shows positive changes in the brain when we work through negative events such as trauma.

Additionally, you'll experience more benefits by being an active participant in therapy. This means using the skills you learn in therapy and applying them to your life.
